Coding: Real World Objects
After School and Weekend Programs
Ready to level up? Bring what’s on the screen into the real world. Using code, students will program objects, robots and machines. Kids can learn how to make a robot play golf, race on their own and more! They will work with switches, sensors and lights. Students will work with coding language that lays between Scratch and Arduino. It takes block-based coding into the real world.

At the end of the program, kids will learn technical and soft skills, including: coding, problem solving, product design and engineering.

Kids will bring their invention to life. Projects include rovers, mini golf carts and more.

As an open-ended, exploratory program, kids are encouraged to push their boundaries and invent something awesome. The iterative design process is introduced, and kids face problems and challenges where there is no right solution but lots of possibly successful approaches. Kids, from beginning to end, will design their own creation, prototype it and improve on it further.
21st Century Skills
Students will meet other like-minded kids and will be able to collaborate on apps together and play together. They will learn, both, technical and soft skills like: engineering, coding, communication, logic and game design. By coding real world objects, students will be able to see the results of their work, receive continuous feedback that will help them grow and develop transferable skills.
The MakerKids Difference
Our instructors are highly trained and come for various backgrounds, including engineering, theatre, music and design. They have worked at City of Toronto, P&G and YMCA. CEO, Jenn Turliuk, attended the Graduate Studies Program at NASA’s Singularity University and business school at Queen’s University.
Leading Edge Technology
We use leading edge technology used by industry professionals. We use Arduinos, which was used to prototype the Square Reader, in our robotics programs. Kids will work with real coding languages, wires, LEDs and more to create their robotic inventions.
Space to Experiment
Our makerspace is a safe space for kids to experiment. Our instructors are first aid trained and have police checks. We have students from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. We are capable of working with kids with different learning abilities. Kids work in groups, design on and offscreen and have time for games/park.
My boys flourish here and look forward to it every week. Does my child need experience coding?
Our classes are open to new and experienced kids of all backgrounds. With our small ratio of 1 instructor for every 8 kids, our instructors will be able to work with each child’s individual needs. We go over coding fundamentals and may hold breakout sessions for beginners and advanced students. It is recommended that kids have computer skills (e.g. typing).
Do we have to bring our own laptop and supplies?
We will provide all the materials needed for the program and activities, which may include laptops and any software.
What will my kid make?
Kids will learn how to code different inventions. They will be able to prototype their own video game, app and even real world objects (robotics).

Ignite your inner inventor! Spend a day with us learning coding, robotics and Minecraft. Kids will work with others to learn technical skills key to the real world and 21st century skills. Kids will develop their own project in each topic.
4-Day Innovation Camp
Students are immersed in a world of creativity, innovation and real world skills. In our Innovation Camps, kids are introduced to all our three core STEM topics: Robotics, Coding and Minecraft.
