Kids Programs FAQ
MakerKids is the first and largest MakerSpace in the world for kids. We have been operating for over 6 years, working from our MakerSpace, schools and other facilities. I am used to registering through a different portal/site – do my login details still work here?
Yes, they do. For your convenience, we’ve integrated our registration system into our site so that you can register directly through our site instead of having to go to a third party site. However, if you feel more comfortable registering at the old site, please feel free to do so here. If you have any feedback on our new site, we would love to hear it! email@example.com

What ages are your programs for?
We have programs for ages 8-12 and 13-15 (check out our Youth! programs). By exception, we can accept 7-year-olds. Please contact us if your child is under 8.
How is different from your previous multi-week programs? What changed?
Our membership plan now features more flexible learning. Join us for one month or join us year long – even throughout the summer. Instead of multi-week terms, kids can join for a month or a whole year through this subscription model. Kids will earn certificates as they progress through hundreds of unique and tested activities. We also have classes for ages 13-15!
Is pricing the same?
If you purchase the 3-month membership, pricing is almost unchanged. Each 2-hour class will be $33.75 compared to $32.50. If you purchase the 6-month or 9-month option, you can save up to 20% compared to a single month’s purchase.
Do you have a referral program?
Yes! When your friend purchases a program or camp and uses your custom coupon code, your friend receives $25 off any program and you earn $25. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to claim your own coupon code. Read more.
Do you have any programs for adults?
Not currently – we can organize them by request though. Email email@example.com
Do I need to have previous experience in using certain programs or having specific skills before I attend one of your programs? No previous experience is required – just a desire to make things! Our instructors will show you how to use any programs or materials safely, and teach you anything else you might want to know.
How do I know if this program is right for my child?
You are welcome to come meet with us to discuss our program, tour our makerspace and ask any questions. Simply email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to book a time. We also run trial classes throughout the year. This is a great way for you and your child to get a taste of MakerKids before committing to a whole program or camp.
Do I have to stay with my child during the program?
No. We encourage kids to learn on their own and with their peers. All our programs are child-centric and project-based.
When do I arrive?
Please arrive a few minutes early to sign in. We also encourage parents to arrive 15 minutes before the end of class to see what the kids have been working on. Parents and guardians are responsible for their children outside of class. MakerKids is open 15 minutes before and after class. Parents are responsible for escorting their children inside MakerKids and outside the facility. We cannot monitor kids over 15 minutes outside of class and do not take responsibility for the actions outside of our stated class times.
Do you have discounts?
Yes! Please note that you can only use one discount code per purchase. Also, discount codes must be used at the time of purchase and cannot be applied retroactively.

Do you have any subsidies or payment plans?
We currently do not have any subsidies or payment plans. We are able to assist in any 3rd party applications. We aim to maintain affordable pricing for all our students at $16.25/hour. Do stay tuned as we grow.
Am I allowed to stay with my child? Do I need to purchase a ticket for myself?
We generally do not allow parents to stay with their children during the programs. If you want to stay with your child during the program, you must request this by email in advance (email@example.com). You must also purchase a ticket, as space is limited.

Do I have register in advance for any program?
Yes. We recommend registering as early as possible as space is limited.
Do I need to bring a laptop?
We will provide all the materials and supplies for our programs. We will provide laptops, software and any other materials. Just bring yourself, some nut free snacks and water!
Is there an outdoor component to summer camps? Do kids just work on the computers?
Yes, the kids get to play and eat lunch outdoors at a local park – Etienne Brule Park. All our programs integrate time for games, activities and working with others. Kids will design, brainstorm together as well as test each other’s inventions on and off screen. We have a strong emphasis on soft skills, not only technical skills. Kids will leave with well-rounded skills and experiences that they can carry with them throughout their lives.
What is your approach towards making?
Our approach is to encourage creativity and empower kids with their own ideas for projects. We encourage all kids to participate in our programs and we don’t push towards certain activities based on gender or stereotype – it’s up to the child what they want to explore and learn about! We also like to encourage children in making their own decisions and to learn by doing, while we act as mentors instead of doing things for them.
What safety measures do you have in place?
We have safety procedures and training for the kids on how to use materials, like Arduinos, safely. Our instructors are also well trained. Any sharp tools are kept well out of reach unless someone needs to use them for a particular project with adult supervision. We are also a scent-free space. Can I have my birthday party at MakerKids?
If you’re looking to book a birthday party in Toronto for kids, or for adults, we would love to help you throw an awesome birthday party at our makerspace! We have a range of activities available such as: Minecraft, toy hacking and more! We can also create other activities – let us know how you would love to celebrate!
Do you offer ______ workshop or program?
Interested in a specific topic or program but don’t see it in our current programming? Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know-we are always looking for suggestions of what you might love to do!
Can I rent out your space for an event I want to have?
Yes, that’s entirely possible! Email us at email@example.com with your event details: date, time, capacity and other requirements.
Do you host workshops outside of your makerspace?
Yes, we host workshops at other events, festivals and other venues. We have done workshops at SXSW, Harbourfront, ROM, schools, Toronto Mini Maker Faire, Toronto Maker Faire Rome, Roncesvalles Polish Festival and more. Do you offer corporate training or creative team sessions?

What is your refund/cancellation policy?
CANCELLATIONS: Your class may be cancelled if too few people register. A decision will be made a few days before the class is scheduled to run, and you will be notified of the cancellation and you will have the option of your registration being turned into a MakerKids credit, or receive a refund in full.
EMERGENCY CLOSINGS: MakerKids will close to the public for weather emergencies. In the case of weather emergency, staff and volunteers may still access the building, but staff will not be on duty, and classes will be cancelled. Closings will be posted online, and you will be emailed if your class is affected. We will attempt to reschedule any classes cancelled due to emergency, but if we are unable to reschedule or you are unable to make the newly scheduled class you will have the option of your registration being turned into a MakerKids credit, or receiving a refund in full.
REFUNDS: There is a $50 fee for any class changes. Cancellation must be done at least 15 days of the class start date – you will have the option of your registration being turned into a MakerKids credit, or receiving a refund in full. If you have registered within 15 days of your program start date, we cannot issue a refund (only credit may apply). In the case of summer camps, no refunds are allowed past June 15 (2 weeks before camps begin). After that point refunds are contingent upon MakerKids being able to fill the seat. MakerKids MakerSpace FAQ
Where are are my transportation or parking options for coming here? We are located at 2451 Bloor St W, about 1 minutes away from Jane subway station. There are street parking options nearby. Do you have a schedule? When are you open? Check out our Programs page to find out our latest schedule. Our MakerSpace is only open during our program times.
