What will kids learn?
At the end of the program, kids will learn technical and soft skills, including: robotics, design, engineering, coding, problem solving and leadership.
What do kids make?
Kids will bring their invention to life. Projects include video games, apps, alarms and night lights. Learn something awesome and make new friends!
What is MakerKids?
We provide STEM education for kids, and we run programs, camps and parties on topics like Coding, Minecraft, Video Game Programming with Scratch, Robotics Inventions using Arduino. We have worked with schools across Toronto and have consulted on curriculum for Intel!
Our goal is to help kids ages 8-12 move from being consumers to creators. Our programs focus, not just on technical skills, but soft skills as well. We teach collaboration, conflict resolution, confidence and effective communication. Minecraft is a great and fun medium for kids to learn about servers, mods and also communication skills as they work with others. In our robotics programs, we work with Arduinos, which are used by industry professionals and are great for prototyping, like the the Square reader! We can’t forget the power of coding. Code is everywhere, from phone apps to real world objects. Kids learn advanced computer skills, logic, and inventiveness.
It is important to teach kids these topics early on as they build their interests and can give them a strong head start, so that they may change the world and lead fulfilling careers.
The MakerKids Difference
Our instructors are highly trained and come from various backgrounds, including engineering, theatre, music and design. They have worked at City of Toronto, P&G and YMCA. CEO, Jenn Turliuk, attended the Graduate Studies Program at NASA’s Singularity University and business school at Queen’s University.
Leading Edge Technology
We use leading edge technology used by industry professionals. We use Arduinos, which was used to prototype the Square Reader, in our robotics programs. Kids will work with real coding languages, wires, LEDs and more to create their robotic inventions.
Space to Experiment
Our makerspace is a safe space for kids to experiment. Our instructors are first aid trained and have police checks. We have students from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. We are capable of working with kids with different learning abilities. Kids work in groups, design on and offscreen and have time for games/park.
My boys flourish here and look forward to it every week. They show social skills improvement and more confidence since coming to MakerKids and finding their “tribe.” Happy children make me a happy and grateful mom. Thanks MakerKids for creating programs for my quirky, “outside the box thinking” boys.Tammy
I love that the kids take the lead on their projects and learn how to achieve their goals Absolutely the kind of things my kids are interested in exploring in a guided setting!
This MakerKids Graduate learned key sound, robotics and design concepts and now runs his own business fixing stereo equipment in his neighbourhood!
