MakerKids-Cambridge

It’s no secret that STEM is popular in Canada. Whether it’s classes for kids or jobs for adults, STEM has a strong presence. At MakerKids, we take all of this into account as we offer a variety of STEM classes for kids

The Popularity of STEM in Cambridge

STEM skills are much-needed in Canada as it is home to several prominent technology companies. Big names like Shopify, Skipthedishes, Hootsuite, and RBC, all call Canada home. While many people in Canada hold STEM jobs,  many others wish they took the STEM route. One study found that more than half of Canadians would focus on a career in a STEM field if they had a chance to turn back time to when they were 18.

Besides available jobs, STEM jobs also come with good salaries. According to data from the 2016 census by Statistics Canada, the average income of a STEM graduate is $15,000 higher than non-STEM graduates. This will be beneficial for kids as they get older and pursue a career in STEM.

The MakerKids Difference

MakerKids offers so much for kids when it comes to STEM. The experience and quality of classes are unmatched. MakerKids is the first makerspace for kids in the world. Founded in 2010, we have gone on to pioneer the industry as we look for new and innovative ways to engage children in the world of STEM.

Children in Cambridge can take advantage of our virtual classes that focus on robotics, coding, and even Minecraft. No matter which they choose, a live instructor is leading the class. They are all top-notch and love to share their knowledge with children of all ages.

At MakerKids, we pride ourselves on involving younger kids in STEM. Children in grades 1-2 can take our MiniMakers class This lets them begin to explore at a young age. They get introduced to coding and robotics and can decide which one they’d like to pursue as they get older. As they decide which one they want to focus on, they can explore that topic and go onto classes that are grouped in different age levels through eighth grade.

MakerKids also stands out for virtual STEM classes in Cambridge because we offer a class that is dedicated to Minecraft. While some people believe this is just a game, we know it can be used as a tool to teach other STEM topics like coding and robotics.

Virtual Classes at MakerKids

Besides Minecraft, we also offer classes in robotics and coding. Children in grades 3-5 learn together and those in 6-8 are together.

All of our virtual classes are small with no more than five students per class. This allows time for students to ask questions and get the help they need. This is important in all settings, but especially in a virtual one because kids are not in person to see their instructor.

At MakerKids, all instructors have gone through an extensive background check so you can always feel confident that your child is being taught by the best in the business. Whether it’s coding, robotics, or Minecraft, our MakerKids instructors are ready to propel your children into the exciting world of STEM where the sky’s the limit.

While learning STEM skills, kids also learn other skills they will use throughout their lives. Kids are learning to be confident adults and how to interact with others in the real world. They learn important communication skills as well as how to work as a team and how to give and take criticism.

No matter what type of class your child is taking, you’ll find that our online classes at MakerKids are reasonably priced. We also offer classes year-round, not just camps because we know that STEM learning happens year-round.

Let’s take a closer look at the classes offered at MakerKids:

Coding

In our coding classes, kids learn topics like animation, character development, and level design.

Robotics

In our robotics classes, kids learn how to make their own electronic creations. If they can create it, they can make it. Their ideas come to life as they learn how to wire up circuits, make virtual lights light up, and code a virtual “robot brain”. The best part is that they can do this right from their homes.

Minecraft

Our Minecraft classes show kids and adults that Minecraft is more than a videogame. By using Minecraft as a learning tool, kids learn to grasp STEM topics like robotics and coding. Many of them never realized how much STEM was a part of this popular game until they started taking our class.

Mini-Makers

Our Mini-Makers classes prove that children are never too young to learn about STEM. Kids in grades 1-2 get introduced to robotics and coding and learn to design their own video games, make robots, and try other experiments.

Birthday Parties, Camps, and More!

Virtual Birthday Parties

MakerKids birthday parties are so much fun! Our virtual birthday parties were named one of 10 awesome birthday places by “Today’s Parent”. During our virtual parties, children get to do all of the activities they would if the party was in person, they’re just doing it from their homes.

This is how it works:

You choose the topic; robotics, coding, or Minecraft. We develop an age-appropriate activity based on your guests. Our instructors will guide the children through the activity and even take a break to play games.

Don’t forget the cake and presents! Our virtual parties allot time for that as well. Our typical birthday party lasts two hours, or you can customize your own.

Camps

There are also MakerKids virtual camps that allow your child to explore STEM topics right from home in Cambridge.  You don’t have to worry about rushing around to get them to camp on time because your kids are doing it right from home. They’ll never be late and won’t miss a thing!  During our camps, we use many of the techniques and strategies taught in our virtual classes.
