How do I use the kit and Arduino?
Each purchase includes a digital instruction guide! This will be emailed to you after purchase. We used the software Arduino IDE and Ardublock to code the Arduinos. They are kid-friendly, free, easy-to-use and great for beginners.
The Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment) is where you write code you send on to the Arduino. When installing it we also want it to handle installing the drivers it’ll use to communicate over USB for us so we’ll make sure to use the .exe installer. Recently the code of the IDE application was refactored which means all version released since are incompatible with tools we make use of at Makerkids.
The version of Arduino needed is 1.6.11 and can be found on this page.
Ardublock is a tool written in Java that converts block-based code into text-based code for the Arduino IDE to pass on to the Arduino.
