The world of STEM can be very exciting for kids which is why it’s important for them to be active in it as early as possible. While it can be hard for parents to shuttle kids from activity to activity, there are many virtual programs now available that make this easier.

When the COVID pandemic hit, many businesses had to do a 180 on how they could reach children and make their programs engaging. At MakerKids, we welcomed the virtual program option and offered it to children all around the world. This has opened new doors for children who were already involved in STEM and for those who have just gotten a taste of it.

At MakerKids, we love that we can offer virtual STEM classes that allow kids to explore and have fun right from home. Our classes are not only convenient but are also hands-on and taught by experienced members of the STEM community.

STEM in the Vancouver Area

Many parents think that STEM is just a hobby for their children. While that may be the case for some, others are setting themselves up for a bright future. Statistics show that demand for STEM jobs is expected to grow more than other industries. This is due to growth in industries like computer design, telecommunication, and production.

With jobs like computer programmers, engineers, scientists, and more, many industries will be looking for workers as time goes on. The demand is there which is why kids need to get on the STEM train now.

At MakerKids, we strive and succeed at making STEM interesting so that kids not only see how it’s part of their daily lives but also realize that it’s fun. When kids are having fun and learning at the same time, they’re bound to stick with their activities. As they stick with these activities, they’ll want to learn more and grow which will set them up for a successful future.

Why Try MakerKids in the Vancouver Area?

We know that you have many choices for STEM activities in the Vancouver area, but you won’t find any that can boast that they were the first makerspace for kids in the world. MakerKids was founded in 2010 and as a pioneer in the industry, you can feel confident that your child is learning from the best in the business.

As you shop around, you’ll find that MakerKids breaks its classes down into different areas; robotics, coding, and Minecraft. Many other programs focus on STEM as a whole but fail to focus on one area. At MakerKids, we like to focus on each area so kids can see what they like best or maybe even dive deeper into more than one area. Whichever they choose, they’ll be instructed by an experienced member of our team who can help them explore their interests and answer questions.

As you look at different program options, you’ll also see that MakerKids is one of the very few where you’ll find a program dedicated to Minecraft. This is one of many ways MakerKids stands out among the competition. Minecraft is more than a video game. It’s a source where kids can learn about coding and robotics.

At MakerKids, you’ll find that we include children in grades 1-8. Not all programs in Vancouver can boast that they do. Some wait until children are a little older to dive into the world of STEM. At MakerKids, we’re able to offer classes to younger children because we separate children into different age groups. This helps them work with their peers and work at their level. With age-appropriate groups, kids can be challenged, but not frustrated with the lessons. We believe children of all ages can benefit from STEM classes and shouldn’t have to wait until they’re a certain age to get started.

Besides our virtual programs, we also offer camps and birthday parties. This allows children to have STEM be a part of all aspects of their lives 24/7, 365 days a year.

As you shop around, you’ll discover that our prices for virtual classes, camps, and birthday parties are comparable or beat many others in the area. This is a bonus for parents who want to provide quality activities for their children but don’t want to break the bank.

Benefits of MakerKids Classes

Since MakerKids’ classes are virtual, the convenience factor is just one of the benefits of enrolling your children. They can access it easily right in the comfort of their home.

There are other benefits that kids get from taking our classes. By taking the classes and interacting with their peers, children learn the self-confidence needed to become successful adults. They also learn how to socialize and interact with kids from all walks of life, anywhere in the world.

Children also benefit from learning from highly educated and experienced teachers. All of our teachers have had extensive background checks and are highly regarded in their field. Our instructors also encourage children to follow their dreams and believe in their ideas.

Virtual Classes at MakerKids

While your child is in the comfort of their home in Vancouver, they’re connecting with our mentors who are busy finding ways to challenge and interact in the different STEM fields.

As we mentioned, we offer classes in three main areas for children in ages 6-13; robotics, coding, and Minecraft. Children in grades 3-5 learn together and those in 6-8 are together.

Smaller children have their own mini-makers classes. These are age-appropriate so that kids pick up the skills they need. All classes, no matter the age, are kept small with no more than five students. We believe this is extremely important in a virtual setting because it allows children to get the attention they need.

Coding

Our coding classes teach children about animation, character development, level design, and beta testing. They learn everything they need to code their own game.

Robotics

If your child loves to create and make things come to life, this is for them. They learn how to make electronic creations that are truly amazing. Their ideas come to life as they learn how to wire up circuits, make virtual lights light up, and code a virtual “robot brain”.

Minecraft

As we mentioned above, our Minecraft classes are truly unique. Through the use of Minecraft, kids learn STEM topics like robotics and coding. Many of them never realized how much STEM was a part of this popular game until they started taking our class. They can use these skills to further their education about coding and robotics or further their understanding of the Minecraft game.

Mini-Makers

Mini-Makers classes are geared to kids in grades 1-2. They are introduced to robotics and coding and learn to design their own video game, make robots, and try other experiments.

Whether it’s coding, robotics, or Minecraft, our MakerKids instructors are ready to prepare your children for the exciting world of STEM.

Birthday Parties, Camps, and More!

Virtual Birthday Parties

Besides our award-winning programs, we also offer virtual birthday parties and camps. This allows children to experience MakerKids in many different ways. Our birthday parties were named one of 10 awesome birthday places by “Today’s Parent”.

If you want to do something different this year, this is it! Here’s how it works:

Your child chooses the topic; robotics, coding, or Minecraft.  We develop an age-appropriate activity based on your guests. Our instructors will guide the children through the activity and even take a break to play games.

Just like an in-person party, there’s also time for cake and presents. Our typical birthday party lasts two hours, or you can customize your own.

Camps

Our virtual camps are a hit for kids who want a different type of camp experience. These are also virtual and allow your child to explore STEM topics right from home on a schedule that works for your family. Our camps allow children to interact with their peers from around the country and the world. Children in Vancouver can interact and learn from children from different cultures which is a truly unique experience.
