What do Steve Jobs, Elon Musk and Bill Gates have in common in their educational backgrounds?

No, they didn’t all go to Ivy League universities – but they all went to technology summer camps or after-school programs or got involved with technology from an early age.

MakerKids runs award-winning kids classes, after-school and weekend programs, summer camps, and parties on Robotics, Coding and Minecraft. But what we’re really all about is helping kids develop the skills and confidence to become innovators, inventors, and entrepreneurs.

Graduates of our programs have started their own businesses, presented their projects on national TV, and been featured in magazines. What will your child create?

Give Your Child the Skills of the Future

Your child will learn the skills and mindsets needed to change the world.

MakerKids specializes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs with highly trained instructors. We run camps, after-school programs, private classes and more.
STEM jobs are in demand and an increasing number of careers look for STEM skills. Studies show that kids decide between ages 7-12 whether they will consider STEM as a career option.

The key is having positive exposure to STEM. Maybe it’s time your child got excited about STEM with us?

Join our Kids After-School Programs:
Robotics, Coding or Minecraft Programs

Your child will learn the foundations of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), while building key social and change-making skills. Kids will create their own inventions in our weekly programs. Classes are 1 hour (Grades 1-2) or 2 hour (Grades 3-5 or 6-8) sessions once a week (4 sessions a month), after school or on the weekends. Sign up for the weekly timeslot of your choice and pay on a monthly basis.

Robotics Programs

Grades 1-2, 3-5 & 6-8

Design the world around you! In our Robotics programs, kids will design, plan, program, and build electronic inventions while using an electronic robotics microcontroller and learning how to code. Kids will better understand how everyday objects around them work and will have the opportunity to bring their ideas to life.

The microcontrollers we use are used by industry professionals.

Kids make electronic creations that they previously could have only dreamed of. Code a ‘robot brain’ to make something awesome. Kids get to see the results of their code right before their eyes. They realize that they can make things that others can use. Kids exercise creativity by developing project ideas, learn to design projects for specific user needs, and give and receive feedback on their designs

Skills Learned: Self-Confidence, Creativity, Teamwork, Coding, Electronics, Math, Reading, Writing, Design

Mini MakerKids Programs

Grades 1-2

Welcome mini MakerKids! This program is designed for little ones who like to think big. Kids will learn how to create and make using various platforms and gadgets. Kids will be exposed to both technical and 21st-century skills, like creativity and confidence. Based on STEM education, kids will build a strong foundation for out-of-the-box thinking, coding and how computers work. Using logic and design, kids will make something amazing and out of this world.

Kids will learn how to use key technology, like computers and pre-built robotics. Kids will touch on all our three core topics: coding, robotics and Minecraft. Key skills kids will learn include: design, the design process, game design, problem-solving and planning. Kids will create, experiment, adjust and retry. The fundamentals of electricity, energy, and programming (how computers think) will be covered in fun ways that kids get to see in action!

Mini MakerKids introduces kids in grades 1 and 2 to our core technology topics: Coding, Robotics, and Minecraft. At our Mini MakerKids programs, your child gets to work on a variety of projects small groups. They will design their own video game, create robotic inventions, explore the 3D design world of Minecraft, and do design and experimentation. Each class your child will build on the skills they learned the week before, coming out of programs with transferable technical skills and social skills.

The weekly cross-discipline exposure puts a focus on valuable skills and coming back to now familiar platforms each day allows kids to see real progress as their abilities grow.

Skills Learned: Social Skills, Confidence, Design, Problem-solving, Game Design, Electronics and Planning

Mini Makers Camps

Grades 1-2

Mini Makers introduces kids to our core technology topics: Coding, Robotics, and Minecraft. Your child will get to work on a variety of projects each day in small groups. They will design their own video game, create robotic inventions, explore the 3D design world of Minecraft, and do STEM experimentation. Each day your child will build on the skills they’ve learned, leaving with transferable technical and social skills.

The daily cross-discipline exposure focuses on valuable skills and allows kids to see progress as their abilities grow. Their projects tie back to this theme to reinforce the importance of interconnectivity in technology.

Idea Incubator STEM Camps

Grades 3-8

In our Idea Incubator STEM Camps, kids will dive into our three core STEM topics: Coding, Robotics and Minecraft.

If you’re looking for inspiring STEM education, this is the right place! In each camp, kids make something awesome, create their own projects and collaborate with others. Build leadership skills, meet other kids who are makers, make your own project, and more.

Robotics Camps

Grades 3-8

Design the world around you! In our Robotics programs, kids design, plan, program, and build electronic inventions while using a robotics microcontroller and learning how to code. Kids better understand how everyday objects around them work and have the opportunity to bring their ideas to life. Kids make creations that they previously only dreamed of. Make lights light up, motors spin, and code a ‘robot brain’ to make something awesome. Kids see the results of their code before their eyes. They realize that they can make things that others can use. Past projects: nightlights, motion-activated alarms, rovers, and more.

Reserve Your Child’s Birthday Party: Robotics, Coding or Minecraft

Your child will learn the foundations of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), while building key social and change-making skills. Kids will create their own inventions in our award-winning birthday parties.

Robotics Birthday Party

In our Robotics party, kids will design, plan, program, and build an electronic invention while using a robotic microcontroller and learning how to code. They can create their own robotic invention and make it light up.

Robotics: Robotic Pets (Gr. 3+)
Using the Microbit microcontroller, kids learn the basics of controlling electricity while making robots into their own interactive pets. For more experienced makers the functionality they can add to what their pet can do grows increasingly complex.

Robotics: Light Show (Gr. 5+)
The Arduino is a prototyping microcontroller popular with both hobbyists and professionals. Kids learn to use a breadboard to wire up circuitry the Arduino can connect to, and then to program their robot to interact with their lights and switches creating their very own customized light show.

Success Story

Serena (12 years old) participated in MakerKids’ Robotics program. She used wearable technology to create a hat that lights up. She published a guide about it in OWL Magazine. Imagine what she could be when she grows up.

Meet Ariel, One of Our Maker-Mentors

Hello, my name is Ariel! I have worked for the YMCA, volunteered for day camps and had a number of placements in other learning spaces such as TDSB classrooms and the Boys and Girls Club. I completed my undergrad at Ryerson University where I studied Early Childhood Education. I most recently earned my Bachelors of Education at University of Ontario Institute of Technology where I graduated with the highest distinction. More simply put, I love learning.

Specialties: Teaching children with unique skills and abilities, meeting diverse learning needs and optimism!

MakerKids: The Original Maker Programs for Kids

MakerKids founded the first makerspace for kids in the world in 2010, and went on to pioneer an industry and transform education.

We’ve been invited to give talks about our work around the world, at SXSW, MakerCon, Maker Faire, TEDx and more.

We’ve trained educators and helped school boards and libraries implement makerspaces.

We’ve run programs for Google and Twitter, for their employees’ kids.

Now, kids can access MakerKids’ award-winning programs on Coding. Minecraft and Robotics from the comfort of their own home.

Space is limited. Sign up for Coding, Robotics, or Minecraft programs or camps today!
