About the Robotics for Kids Program

In our robotics program, kids design, plan, program, and build electronic inventions while using a robotics controller. These controllers are the same used by industry professionals. Kids get to bring their ideas to life while learning more about how things around them work.

Kids get to use online robotics simulator technology to learn how to make electronic creations that they only dreamed of creating. They learn how to wire up circuits, make lights work, and learn how to solve real-world problems. They learn about a variety of electromagnetic concepts and code a “robot brain” to make something amazing. Through the robotics program, kids realize they can make things other people can use.All of the children who participate can give and receive feedback about projects as they work to improve their projects and help their peers.

Why choose MakerKids to teach your child
Robotics?

We have an award-winning curriculum that is second to none. Your child will experience a curriculum built by engineers, entrepreneurs, and graduates of the Singularity University program at NASA. We have been named “Best Kids Workshops” and have a curriculum that will redefine your child’s relationship with technology.

You can count on MakerKids to provide the best instructors because we use a 7-step vetting process. This includes background checks, multiple reference checks, and extensive technology training.

21st Century Skills

Our classes teach kids about teamwork and help to build the confidence they will need to become our future technology leaders.

Technical Skills

Your kids will learn from NASA-educated entrepreneurs, teachers, and engineers. They will teach them valuable skills they will build on their entire lives.

Social Skills

Kids learn to make friends and interact with their peers. They also learn how to give and receive feedback.

Robotics Programs

Design the world around you! In our Robotics programs, kids design, plan, program, and build electronic inventions while using a robotics microcontroller (the same microcontrollers used by industry professionals) and learning how to code. Kids better understand how everyday objects around them work and have the opportunity to bring their ideas to life. Kids use online robotics simulator technology to learn how to make electronic creations that they previously only dreamed of. Wire up circuits, make lights light up, design solutions to real-world problems, learn about a variety of electromagnetic concepts, and code a ‘robot brain’ to make something awesome. Kids see the results of their code before their eyes. They realize that they can make things that others can use. Kids exercise creativity by developing project ideas, learn to design projects for specific user needs, and give and receive feedback on their designs. These skills will help them learn to build projects such as nightlights, motion-activated alarms, rovers, and more.

Skills Learned: Self-Confidence, Creativity, Teamwork, Coding, Electronics, Math, Reading, Writing, Design

Kids can start into a level at anytime. They will advance to the next level once they have finished all the activities in their current level or when they are ready to move to the next level.

Beginner Robotics

Kids will learn everything they need to know to code their very own robotics projects using industry-leading microcontrollers: the Arduino and the MicroBit (sponsored by BBC. With the help of easy-to-use block-based online coding interfaces, kids experience a very capable and rewarding introduction to robotics. Basic circuitry and programming concepts are also covered to give students a good foundation for more complex components and coding structures later on.

Grades 3-5 & 6-8

No robotics experience required

Intermediate Robotics

With kids comfortable using robotics interfaces and a number of projects under their belt, more fundamental robotic programming structures are tackled. After covering conditional statements and a few other slightly more abstract coding tools like variables, the intermediate section moves through component after component teaching kids what they do, how they work, and then presenting projects that they can utilize them in.

Grades 3-5 & 6-8

Some prior robotics experience required.

Ages 6-13. Programs are divided into Grades 1-2, 3-5, and 6-8.
For your child to have everything they need to be successful in our robotics classes for kids, we recommend having the following items ready for each class:

  • A laptop or desktop (with 4GB+ RAM)
  • Internet connection
  • Working microphone and speakers
  • Keyboard and a mouse
  • Chrome browser
  • Webcam (optional)
As a rule of thumb, our certified MakerKids instructors recommend booking your first free trial class to let your child experience the class and discover some of the basics before enrolling full time. When you request to book a free trial for your child, we set up a quick time at your convenience for our team to chat with you and answer all of your questions and concerns.

Many people will differ with their answers, but generally, the best age to learn programming is around age 7. By this time kids can grasp the concepts necessary to get the basics.
Robotics for kids is a hands-on way for kids to not only learn STEM concepts but also make their own robots. Robotics teaches kids to also program and design robots.
Robotics for kids is good because it not only teaches them about technology at a young age but also teaches them how to work with others. They learn how to work as a team as well as the self-confidence needed to make their projects come to life.
Yes! We offer sibling and multi-class discounts. Simply use codes SIBLING or MULTI at checkout to get 5% off your coding class purchase, or ask our team to add those when they book your free trial.
Yep, we sure do! We offer weekly private classes where your child can learn robotics one on one with our qualified instructor.

Yes. To ensure all kids feel confident and learn at a pace based on their experience level, we offer three levels: mini makers, beginner, and experienced.

  • Mini Makers – Designed for grades 1-2, these classes teach the basics of coding, robotics, or Minecraft while also promoting technical, creative, and social skills.
  • Beginner– Designed for grades 3 and up, these classes are for kids with low or no previous experience in robotics for kids. The activities done in beginner sessions are group-based and will change from class to class.
  • Experienced– Designed for grades 3 and up, these classes are for kids with prior experience in robotics. Kids in experienced classes will be working on a mix of group and independent projects that may take multiple classes to complete.
