“At first when I came here, I had no idea how any of this electric stuff worked, and I’m just like, how I am going to be able to make this? But over time with my mistakes, I realized it gets easier and it comes to me and sometimes making a mistake actually teaches you something – why something doesn’t work.”

Tell me more about this workshop:

This workshop is great for beginners, no prior experience or skills are required! For kids who would like to get a little more advanced, our instructor can guide them in making a more advanced ornament.

We’ll start with an intro of examples of ornaments or decorations that can be made, then each child can start designing and sketching out what they want their ornament or decoration to be! We’ll then start making the item by  sawing, drilling, gluing, stitching, sewing, or 3D printing parts. The kids can choose from our variety of materials or even bring something they would like to upcycle!

Then, we’ll learn how to build a circuit, connect LED’s, and construct a switch to understand how a simple circuit works. We’ll also learn how to solder and incorporate the lights or electronics part into the ornament or decoration!

What can you make? Here are some ideas for inspiration:

  • fabric or foam ornaments with LED’s
  • pom pom snowman with LED’s
  • 3D printed ornament
  • blinking ornaments or decorations
  • upcycled ornaments
